About

Functional food are most often described as a food or beverage that are claimed to have a health-promoting or disease-preventing property beyond the basic function of supplying nutrients. They are often believed to enhance health and well-being (assist in weight-loss, reduce risk of disease), enhance performance (either physical/athletic performance or memory/cognitive functions), or help manage a chronic condition (such as heart disease, diabetes).

Functional Foods came about as a result from public health endeavors, for example vitamin-D enriched milk virtually eliminated rickets and iodine-fortified salt substantially decreased incidences of goiter.  However the movement of private companies creating  “functional foods” began in Japan over 20 years ago. The market was developed to fulfill the need of consumers who appreciate the role of diet in their health, and seek to prevent the onset of chronic disease through the adoption of specific behaviors

The advance of nutritional science has been remarkable over the past few years; we are now seeing respected medical journals publishing articles substantiating the clinical efficiency of nutritional interventions that would have been viewed quite skeptically a few years ago. The medical community increasingly regards functional foods as a powerful adjunct treatment modality, and the health care providers are seeing that functional foods can potentially reduce the costs of managing expensive chronic disorders.

The massive increase in consumer awareness of health and well-being has been dubbed the “wellness revolution”. The way we think about health is radically changing. People are focusing a lot more on general wellbeing and maintaining their health in order to prevent sickness and ill health, as opposed to waiting to getting sick and then trying to cure it. People are too becoming more aware of the benefits functional foods hold in gaining wellness.

This blog is dedicated to the scientific research into Functional Food and how functional foods can help wellness and power the ‘Wellness Revolution’. This blog is powered by a team of Functional Food enthusiasts who are ready to embrace the wellness revolution. We really hope you enjoy this blog and would love to hear your thoughts and experience with functional foods.

  7. Losing weight is not a magic, you must work hard into it,
you must do workouts and also at the same time eat healthy diets to
lose weight. If you think the most effective way to reduce weight would be to starve yourself or eat only cantaloupe,
think again. Chocolate mousse cheesecake with delicate chocolate shavings along
with the same graceful whipped cream. Now decide on some
recipes that you could easily prepare so that you always
have healthy food available. Apples contain pectin which is known to
    suppress appetite.
